  • This very user friendly dog friendly place gives a lot of history of this part of Hadrian's wall and is well worth a visit if nearby. The shop and restaurant are also very good. Highly recommended.

  • Parking is £4 however we didn't have change and allowed us to pay at the visitor centre. Courtyard for picnics and food from the tea room was lovely. Despite sign saying guide dogs only. We were able to take our 2 dogs around the ruins and a good few other dogs there too. Staff gave a lovely welcome and very helpful.
  • A very atmospheric site. I've visited Birdoswald many times in all kinds of weather and each visit has stirred my imagination in a different way - what was the first garrison, what happened to the local inhabitants of the 'vicus' next door, where did the robbed-out stone disappear to? I shall return!
  • Interesting museum, nice that dogs are welcome everywhere apart from the main part of the cafe
  • Great little roman fort. Kids loved dressing up as Roman Legionnaires.
  • Ruins of a Roman fort you can only see it here, Austria,Hungary and The Netherlands.
