  • Definitely worth a visit. There is a steep walk up a hill to get to it but it is well worth it and provides the best views of the wall in my opinion.  more »
  • Due to extensive redevelopment work, this site is best avoided at present. The ruined remains that are left are OK, but certainly not worth £7.20, as you can see it all in under 30mins. Best to carry ...  more »
  • Large remains of a fort (about 130m from the East to the West gate). Good tea room with a good range on offer but prices rather high. Exhibition room was closed when we were there but there was no red...  more »

  • Visited June 2016. The website states limited accessibility so my dad and I set off. However when we got there we were a bit dubious about the access so my dad ran in and got told by the staff that there isn't even limited access. Being in a wheelchair I understand that often there will be parts of historic sites I can't get to but had we known what the staff said we wouldn't have visited. So definitely not a place to visit in a wheelchair until they address their access, and definitely ignore the limited access advised on the website.
  • Very disappointing. Drove miles out of our way to find the site closed due to renovations in the visitor centre. Lots of work in the modern buildings, but no activity in the actual fort ruins at all, let alone anything which would require blocking access. Information from a visitor centre is a "nice to have", not a "must have". In any case, looking over the fence, there appears to be plenty of info signs within the fort. We met lots of unhappy people at Birdoswald today. English Heritage needs to review their policy and only block access where and when absolutely necessary.
  • While a little out of the way, it's definitely worth the drive out here. They've done an excellent job of preserving the area, excavating the fort, and regularly put on interactive talks about how daily life might have been during the Roman occupation.
  • A great walk. The foods delicious and the bathrooms are very clean
  • Very helpful an considerate Catherine. Member of staff
