  • On a winter's crisp morning, it was really nice to explore the grounds and trail-walks, seeing plenty of woodland flowers, and being surprised by a burned-out grand house, and a sort of folly. Familie...  more »

  • Lovely venue with great play park for children. Bus takes less able-bodied up the rather steep hill from the visitor centre. Staff there were really good. One criticism is of the cafe. When we went in at 12.10 on Monday there appeared to be only the breakfast menu, sandwiches and cakes on offer so we ended up ordering scones and coffee. Later my daughter joined us and we were surprised to see that she had ordered a jacket potato. The menu allegedly changed at twelve noon from breakfast to lunch but the LED displayed menu was not altered until at least 12.15. The cafe lost sales of hot food that they would otherwise have experienced! Also, my daughter had to wait ages for the potato. When she went up and queried the time it was taking she was told, "we are waiting for coleslaw", no apology about the wait and she didn't particularly care whether she had a coleslaw accompaniment or not. The cafe is letting down the other excellent facilities and impressive customer service side of the enterprise!
  • Love Gibside. Turns out of you ride there you can get a free cuppa! Beautiful walks, excellent play park, and a fun low ropes course. The cafe can get busy around lunchtime so head there a little early, or bring a picnic. Well worth a visit.
  • Lovely place for a nice relaxing stroll with plenty of wildlife on offer. Plenty for kids also from den building and learning in the discovery centre to playing in the park. Nice cafe for food and drink with the bakery just across the road making fresh bread
  • Great place to wander round. The walled garden is amazing. Cafe could do with wider choice as the morning we went had nothing to offer really and had run out of breakfast items at opening time!
  • Amazing adventure playground. Kept my kids occupied for hours. They loved the playground, low ropes and den building. Will have to go back as we didn't see it all. A warning though - lots of steep hills!
