  • A beautiful place to visit. Plenty of information. Grounds are immaculately kept. Pleasant and friendly lady in reception. It is well worth the climb to the top.  more »
  • Visited here on the late afternoon of 17th May and found we had the place to ourselves. Quite an interesting tower house type of castle and you can get to the top, although the top area isn't very big...  more »
  • OK, I admit that I'm not a massive history junkie and generally trail around ruins with the other half, looking for views and tea shops. I expected Cardoness to be another identikit castle ruin visit ...  more »

  • Brilliant castle. You can see and go up three levels to the top. Buy a guide book gives the history of the family that lived there. Ahs they weren't very nice either
  • Cardoness was once owned by McCullohs, who were my ancestors. I have seen many pictures of this place before and have read stories about some people living in it. So it was really special to visit McCulloh Castle on May 17, 2016. Happy for the cut-away sketches which helps us to visualize what the castle was probably like in its heyday.
  • Visited in July 2016. Very atmospheric part ruined castle built and owned by the McCullochs, a delightfully nasty bunch of individuals which adds to the experience. Bit of a steep climb, but worth the effort for the views. As an EH member I got in free which was a pleasant surprise. The lady running the centre was also very friendly and offered suggestions for other places to visit nearby.
  • Gorgeous castle and lovely staff
  • Lovely views and lovely area. I passed this for years on the way into Gatehouse of Fleet and never went in but I visited with family and loved it!
