Old Inverlochy Castle, Fort William

(3.7/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Visit the ruins of a 13th-century fortress at Old Inverlochy Castle, which has been unaltered since its heyday under the reign of King Alexander III. Strategically built on the entrance to the Great Glen, a key passage through the Scottish Highlands, the castle bears witness to two significant battles in Scotland's history. The castle follows the "enceinte" style, where the main defensive line of wall towers and curtain walls enclose the position. With one side defended by the river, the other three were protected by a moat (now gone). Tour the ruins along the many footpaths that wind throughout the property. • Only 2 mins out of Fort William, very interesting castle. Can be done in 30mins but a nice add-on if the day tunrs out to be a bit short. Will go again  more »
  • Inverlochy castle is a great place to visit, taking your time to soak up all the information the place has to give you. I would recommend you go visit here  more »
  • The short drive up here was worth it. There's free access to the castle and there's information available all around the ruins. Very nice visit.  more »

  • Great little stop with a nice view - we couldn't visit inside the ruins however we did take a walk around the castle and learned the history of it. Beautiful setting along the River Lochy.
  • Nice if you are in the area. But there is current preservation taking place but you can still see it.
  • Nice little Castle ruin. Sadly we couldn't get in since it's under some sort of restoration/maintenance.
  • Free and easy to park (go right not left like we did!). Not much to see but a few boards to read about the history and a nice view of the river.
  • Pretty. Nice views of the castle. Would like to know more of the history of the castle.
