National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Falmouth

(4/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
Inside a building near the harbor designed by M.J. Long rests the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. The current museum is the product of collaboration between two maritime museums in the area. In 2003, these two museums combined resources to open the museum without direct government support. In the galleries, you'll find exhibits telling stories of fishing, boatbuilding, wrecks, and the immigrants who helped shape the city of Cornwall into the diverse harbor town it is today. The Bartlett Library inside the museum is a center for maritime research and holds many of the original port records in its archives. A visit to National Maritime Museum Cornwall represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Falmouth trip itinerary builder to plot your vacation.

  • Visited this museum in early August, and it was totally packed. Most of the exhibits were detailed and interesting, and often related in some way to Falmouth. The Vikings exhibit was excellent and kept a maritime focus whilst also looking at aspects like trade and exploration through that time period. Overall the museum did a good job of linking the old with the new, but was perhaps a little pricey.
  • If you're at all interested in marine matters of all kinds, this is a great place to visit. Lots of exhibits, both static and interactive and amazing views of the harbour from the top of the observation tower. Wait till high tide to go underwater at the lowest level. Helpful and pleasant staff.
  • The only museum where you can climb into the exhibits. Totally brilliant visit. Educational, fascinating stories of human triumph over adversity and stuff about Vikings.
  • What a great museum!!! We visited with my 6 yo daughter and baby in a pram, everything was accessible with the pram (the viewing deck was a squeeze) great exhibition on Vikings! Great rainy day activity!!!
  • Perfect for rainy days also for kids suitable. Tide zone makes the high and low tide visible.
