National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Falmouth
Categories: Specialty Museums, Museums
Inside a building near the harbor designed by M.J. Long rests the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. The current museum is the product of collaboration between two maritime museums in the area. In 2003, these two museums combined resources to open the museum without direct government support. In the galleries, you'll find exhibits telling stories of fishing, boatbuilding, wrecks, and the immigrants who helped shape the city of Cornwall into the diverse harbor town it is today. The Bartlett Library inside the museum is a center for maritime research and holds many of the original port records in its archives. If you're at all interested in marine matters of all kinds, this is a great place to visit. Lots of exhibits, both static and interactive and amazing views of the harbour from the top of the observation tower. Wait till high tide to go underwater at the lowest level. Helpful and pleasant staff.
I felt that attendence at the National Maritime Museum was overpriced and expensive for a family day out. That said staff were friendly and helpful and the Viking experience was fascinating. There was a limited amount to see overall. I rate at 3 stars.
Very impressed with location and displays, a bit expensive however afterwards very disappointed. After returning home to Wales received parking fine from Premier Park review their reputation or search Falmouth Maritime Museum parking. It is shocking 'legal' extortion.
Viking aection was great. Reat a little dull in my opinion.
Perfect day out for kids. Very well thought through. Good views of Falmouth from the top too.
