We were staying at Edzell village and walked up to the castle one morning. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly lady who shared with us her wealth of knowledge about the site and its history as we... more »

The castle lies a couple of miles west of Edzell and is located in a rural setting, surrounded by the Angus countryside. The castle could be described as a ruin but this would not do justice to its ma... more »

Intendiamoci: chi viaggia in Scozia in auto (perché non teme, come me, di guidare a sinistra), di castelli può godersene a (molte) decine e, se sceglie gli itinerari giusti, non ci mette molto a infil... more »Mind you: those traveling to Scotland by car (why not afraid, like me, to drive on the left), castles can enjoy in many dozens and, if he chooses the right routes, doesn't take much to poke 3 or 4 in one day, if he wants. Entrance fees (high) aside, for fans of the genre is a godsend. But if you travel by public transport, is another matter altogether, and the idea of being an hour and 39 minutes by bus from Dundee to just as long to get back to the starting point not exalted my partner. My fixation for the castles reached, however, has had the upper hand and did not at all regret. The castle is small, but not only packs a unique specimen-for Scotland-about Renaissance garden with beautiful geometric figures, well maintained; It also has its own particular charm, due to the specific nature that sets it apart from many other similar buildings, immediately seized-as I see from other reviews-by the visitor. I mean, you could tell without excess affectation that is a small gem. As they say, is worth the effort to get there.
Great visit! The castle was really nice and people there were very helpful.
Excellent and underrated Gem from Historic Scotland - Opens in Summer Only, and WELL worth a visit. Has a couple of picnic tables and a great bit lawn to the outside if you've got kids who need to have a run about.
Great place to relax and enjoy
Lovely castle friendly staff
We almost blew past this place on the way to Aberdeen. We were very glad we didn't. The garden was really peaceful and blooming with color. And they had peacocks - well peacocks, peahens and some chicks as well.
