Where to stay in Edinburgh

Edinburgh hides a maze of cobbled streets dotted with boutique hotels offering inexpensive rooms and outstanding restaurants. Many of the city's Gothic buildings house chic hotels with easy access to most of the city’s main tourist sites. For a uniquely Scottish experience, consider staying in the famous old town. Despite being in this historical district, many hotels here feature contemporary decor with lots of glass walls and muted color schemes. They’re also known for offering spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and restaurants serving classic European cuisine, with a modern Scottish twist.

  • Quiet and peaceful. Could be a nice place for a picnic. Not far from the Museum of Modern Art and a really great old cemetery.  more »
  • We walked from Leith to Stockbridge after visiting the Britannia. Firstly we found it hard to figure out where it started at Leith, there appeared to be very little signposting or signs to show where ...  more »

  • Called here on the bike for a toilet break, small café seemed well priced and had a reasonable selection. Also had a reasonable selection of books and souvenirs. Definitely planning on returning here without the bike and spending more time looking around. Particularly at the free (very small donation appreciated (and well worth it for the upkeep)). Would recommend.
  • Has alot of interesting stuff about the water of Lieth and what is available around the river through the city centre.
  • Friendly people with excellent knowledge and happy to share their wisdom! A wee hidden treasure to visit.
  • Fun and informative for adults and kids; NB this stretch of the Water of Leith itself is not the most beautiful or interesting - upstream towards Craiglockhart is OK, and keeps getting better and better until Colinton; downstream, apart from the cemetery and the allotments it doesn't get to the nicest, most interesting parts until below Murrayfield. It's all good, though. Even here at Slateford there are some fascinating historical industrial sites and dramatic sites, e.g. the parallel viaduct and aquaduct etc. The river-canal interface itself makes a wonderful hub for varied walks and explorations....
  • Always a great day walking the Water of Leith walk!
