The Edinburgh Dungeon, Edinburgh

(4/5 based on 3,800+ reviews on the web)
A fun-packed, theme-driven experience, The Edinburgh Dungeon aims to plunge you into a scary and exciting recreation of the seedier aspects of Scottish history. Theater actors and storytellers complement the dungeon’s deliberately maudlin rides and exhibits through the use of black humor and monologues. Fully interactive, the facility aims to provide a more exciting and fun way to find out about the history of both Edinburgh and Scotland. Make The Edinburgh Dungeon a part of your Edinburgh vacation plans using our Edinburgh trip builder.

  • Love this place. Good fun, a little scary and local history with a twist. Would not advise for under 10's and even those over it will depend how sensitive they are. Perfect for teenagers and adults. T...  more »
  • I would recommend the real Mary King's close to go instead of the Edinburgh dungeon. Found this a bit too fake all

  • Stopped in to get a good scare but came away with some fun (yet creepy) facts about Edinburghs darker side. The program is interactive (I got branded a witch with a dark mark) with a few "ride" portio...  more »

  • The black history of Schotland embedded in creepy tour. Learn a lot and got spooked a lot. Keep up the good work!
  • Despite what it says in the brochure, not suitable for children. Even if you child behaves like some of the monsters you meet here they'll soon be crying to leave. I was expecting a learning experience like the London dungeon, Edinburgh Dungeon is quite different though. You'll experience a theatrical guided tour from actors who involve you from your sentencing of heinous crimes against the community in the opening courtroom through to your eventual (virtual) death at the end of the tour. It's jumpy, scary, dark and definitely not for those that prefer snuggling up with a teddy and a cup of hot chocolate. You are more likely to need therapy afterwards than a hug. Good value for money and lots of unique gifts in the gift shop afterwards.
  • Good although had to wait for an hour with no explanation as to why and no suggestion that there would be a delay at the outset. Expensive considering what was on offer. Ideal for children aged 8+ but probably not ideal for younger (as ours are).
  • Not what we expected, by far the biggest waste of money spent on our trip to Edinburgh. Don't even bother. The staff there are rude, insulting and the experience was merely a poor excuse for pantomime. Some flashing lights and badly dressed story tellers is not worth £17.50 and an hour wait in a queue.
  • Not what we were expecting, very good staff who all must love their job. Expensive for what it was. Dont go if you wanted to see dungeons. Or if you are elderly, disabled, it is more like a fair ride or Ghost train/fun house. But we will definitely remember it. Should be warned before you pay what is expected. Wouldn't do it again, but if you want some fun may be worth it.
