St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh
(4.6/5 based on 3,400+ reviews on the web)
Referred to as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, St Giles' Cathedral is the city's principal place of worship. Located on the Royal Mile, the cathedral is an iconic landmark in the Edinburgh skyline. Much of the current building was restored in the 19th century, but the four pillars in the center are thought to date back to 1124. Chapels, called aisles, were built around the pillars and extended out on all sides. This unique arrangement coupled with the vaulted ceilings and vibrant stained glass give the cathedral a timelessness. Make St Giles' Cathedral part of your personalized Edinburgh itinerary using our Edinburgh tourist route planner.

  • It is a must see when you are visiting Edinburgh. It is an impressive structure from outside and also from inside. Our kids loved all the paintings on the glass windows of the Cathedral. They pointed ...  more »
  • There is a tourist information centre, cafe and gift shop. There is a daily service and holy communion often and many on Sundays.
  • The inside is as breathtaking as the outside. Nice to visit and take a break from the busy Main Street.

  • Super busy because of its location but well worth a visit because of it's unique architectural points and history. However I was very annoyed to see a sign saying there is a 2 pound charge to take a photo. I thought greed was a sin?
  • Listened to the organ concert as I happened to arrive right at the beginning and the feeling was of serenity and peace. One of the loveliest cathedrals I've ever seen. Definitely worth a visit.
  • Beautiful church on the Royal Mille. Free entrance, but charged you if you want to take pic.
  • So well preserved and so beautiful, the glass windows are spectacular. There was a choir concert going on, very nice. I would have loved to enter it with a guide or someone who told me all about it.
  • You cannot actually enjoy exterior, but inside it is beautiful cathedral.
