St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh

Church
Referred to as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, St Giles' Cathedral is the city's principal place of worship. Located on the Royal Mile, the cathedral is an iconic landmark in the Edinburgh skyline. Much of the current building was restored in the 19th century, but the four pillars in the center are thought to date back to 1124. Chapels, called aisles, were built around the pillars and extended out on all sides. This unique arrangement coupled with the vaulted ceilings and vibrant stained glass give the cathedral a timelessness. • Beautiful place to sit and contemplate. Didn't realise it was used in the de Vinci code. Lovely gothic Windows . Easy access in and out.  more »
  • Quick visit in the Centre of Edinburgh. Many tourists in the place but the same can travel with peace of mind. Very beautiful stained glass windows and organ being played at the same time. There is also a small shop on the side that sells books of Scottish clans and religious and historical articles. No doubt it's worth, the only problem is that it closes early - around 5 o'clock-.

  • Super busy because of its location but well worth a visit because of it's unique architectural points and history. However I was very annoyed to see a sign saying there is a 2 pound charge to take a photo. I thought greed was a sin?
  • Listened to the organ concert as I happened to arrive right at the beginning and the feeling was of serenity and peace. One of the loveliest cathedrals I've ever seen. Definitely worth a visit.
  • Beautiful church on the Royal Mille. Free entrance, but charged you if you want to take pic.
  • So well preserved and so beautiful, the glass windows are spectacular. There was a choir concert going on, very nice. I would have loved to enter it with a guide or someone who told me all about it.
  • You cannot actually enjoy exterior, but inside it is beautiful cathedral.
