St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh

4.5
Referred to as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, St Giles' Cathedral is the city's principal place of worship. Located on the Royal Mile, the cathedral is an iconic landmark in the Edinburgh skyline. Much of the current building was restored in the 19th century, but the four pillars in the center are thought to date back to 1124. Chapels, called aisles, were built around the pillars and extended out on all sides. This unique arrangement coupled with the vaulted ceilings and vibrant stained glass give the cathedral a timelessness. • Beautiful cathedral, Grand Gothic Medieval building with colourful stained glass windows and Presbyterian place of worship, where John Knox first and used to preach carrying the history of Scotland. I highly recommend everyone to visit this stunning breathtaking architecture as you walk down the Royal mile. We really enjoyed our day the weather was brilliant. We'll definitely come again May break awesome. Cafe downstairs reasonable prices with homemade dishes, a wide selection of hot, cold food and drinks. Very friendly, helpful staff and volunteers. Clean and tidy environment. There's a very informative board that highlights things to pay attention to and where they are within the cathedral. Entrance fee is voluntary suggested donations of five pounds per visit plus two pounds to all those who want to take pictures. They don't mind any amount though for the upkeep of the cathedral.
  • Surprisingly small inside (No crypt) but full of historical interest. The Thistle Chapel is especially beautiful. Anyone interested in Heraldry will be fascinated by the many flags on display
  • Beautiful little church. Loved it. If you love old religious sites this place carries much important local history. Smack in the middle of its village there is access to every amenity close by.
  • It’s one of the landmark on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. With a big square in front of the Cathedral, it’s been taken over for the filming of Fast & Furious 9, starring Vin Diesel and Ludacris. If you are their fans, they have been spotted dining out all over town. The best about Edinburgh is that the locals are gracious and let the mega stars go about eating their meals with respect.
  • Im not religious but do appreciate the architecture and condition of the Cathedral from floor to ceiling it beautiful, quite spectacular in its own way, has to be seen with the naked eye. Entry is free, but only £2 for a photography pass which allows picture to be taken. They will stop you if you don't have one. Well worth a visit.
