(4.1/5 based on 440+ reviews on the web)
Located along the Firth of Forth, Portobello Beach sits 5 km (3 mi) east of the center of Edinburgh. An hour's walk, short bike journey, or a local bus-ride away, explore the promenade and enjoy this old seaside resort. Grab a copy of the heritage trail from the library, and follow the route to discover galleries, restaurants, and gift shops. • Wide beaches to walk and/or run very quiet, there aren't many open places to eat out of season. Accessible on foot from the Center or by bus, which is paid with coins if there is no appropriate card, I think less than 1.50 lbs. Take coins, always you out of trouble...

  • Lovely stretch beach. Went end Aug, but lovely day not to hot or to cold, beach was clean, no rubbish, sea was clean, plenty do for children with out costing earth. One end bouncy castle's and amusement Arcades, other end a lovely walk along sea front, good sandy beach and plenty of Seats to relax and watch the little or big 1s lol. Nice Swimming pool on sea front if don't want sea Swim. And with in 5 mind walk, the lovely St Andrews Fish shop, Portobello is Def worth visit for all ages.
  • Went in the summer and it was still chilly nonetheless. I guess it's cold here all year round but aside from that this beach is a wonderful getaway from the urban civilisation. Perfect place to soak your feet and also a place to timelapse the beautiful blue skies with clouds passing by. There are a few restaurants/cafes around the beach so do drop by!
  • Beach stone throws away from Edinburgh city center. Great place for a walk, ice cream. Dip in sea (if you can stand the Scottish cold water) great for PokémonGo players
  • A nice sand beach not far from the Edinburgh city. The public transport is so convenient. The beach is not too busy in the evening.
  • It is a lovely peaceful place to walk with a lovely clean sand. Great place for kids to enjoy with buckets and spades and mayb a picnic.
