  • Grounds are free to enter, with great views out over the Forth. The Japanese garden is well worth a look. No dogs allowed so great if you have young kids who like to roam free- just look out for ponds and water features. Also home to a croquet club. EDIT- they let dogs on the grounds now.
  • Nothing really much here. Great place to do plane spotting and viewing Cramond island. The Kyoto Friendship Garden is a nice place to visit when it's sunny!
  • Good place to go only to if you are living in Edinburgh and you have seen everything else. The tour is not expensive so maybe can be interested but I wouldn't repeat (the tour)
  • Great place to go for a walk and if you want to find out about the history you can do the guided tour of the castle. There are also plenty of other events and lectures but unfortunately they are usually on during the day so I've never been able to get along. The Japanese gardens are very peaceful and if it's a nice day you can chill and watch people playing croquet on the lawn.
  • Free parking, nice views of the river and relaxing grounds with no entry fee. Only downside is the 5 quid for a quick guided tour of the rooms inside castle.
