Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh

3.4
#1 of 17 in Zoos & Aquariums in Scotland
Over 1,000 rare and endangered animals reside at Edinburgh Zoo. On the 33 hectare (82 acre) site, you can see the UK's only two giant pandas and meet its only koalas. Follow the Budongo Trail to interact with chimpanzees and learn more about their connection with humans. View exotic and colorful species of birds in the aviary, observe sun bears in their state-of-the-art enclosure, and sit among diverse collections of trees and flowers in the zoo's garden. These are just a few examples of the experiences available here. Viewing the giant pandas is included in the admission price, but you must reserve your place in advance online. • A fantastic display again this year, informative and colourful. Loved the clocks at the beginning and the end. Only downside was the cost.  more »

  • Had a fantastic time at the Zoo with the wee one, couldn't recommend it enough. We were lucky to go mid week and it wasn't too busy. We had a chance to meet some of the zoo keepers (which by the way are ridiculously knowledgeable) and you can totally tell they absolutely love the animals. All animals looked very happy, well looked after and most enclosures are modern with a lot of stimulating areas for the animals. I think the variety of animals is totally appropriate for the size of the Zoo. It was my first time visiting and I thought it would be way smaller than it actually is. I have been to bigger zoo's abroad and the animals didn't seem to have as much space as some of the animals in Edinburgh, especially the wallabies, tiger, penguins and others. I will definitely visit again as I had the feeling the money spent was well spent and invested back into the Zoo.
  • As zoos goes this one was not too bad. Unfortunately the zoo is located on the side of quite a large hill and so some disabled buggies will find it a strain to get to some parts. The penguin area is definitely the best part of this zoo for me. Lots of different kinds of penguins in one place, very nice to see. Unfortunately the Pandas were not available to be viewed on the occasion I visited, and I have heard lots of people in the past not being able to view them either. So if you are visiting the zoo just to see the pandas, please be aware it may not happen.
  • Love Edinburgh zoo, I enjoy all the enclosures apart from the primates. It was a really nice sunny day when I was here. Didn't get to see a lot of animals as I was here for a work event. However having been before, I can say it truly is a worth while day out. Also some of the conservation work being done by the zoo around the world is truly amazing. Keep it up guys.
  • Great. Was very relaxed and had a nice feel about it. Chimps were especially great, as were the pandas. Earlier the better, to get a good view. I would go straight to the pandas and then work my way back to the exit from there. Lot cheaper to get into than other zoo's we have visited. Number 26 bus and 31 goes from Princess street, straight to the front door. £8.50 for a family day return, valid on most buses. Tip... bus stop is past Waverly bridge, on princess st, towards the castle. Not outside the train st. A great day out!
  • Such an amazing experience at the Edinburgh Zoo. The enclosures for the animals were some of the best I’ve seen around the world! Not only were they large, but the animals legitimately seemed happy in the areas they were in, which was very nice to see. The most impressive enclosures in my opinion were the penguins, pandas, and tiger. I enjoyed hearing about their conservation efforts in collaboration with other zoos. I appreciated that they gave examples of how people can help with conservation through buying sustainable products and suggesting ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. I feel like there was even a bigger impact considering they were talking in front of the animals that are being harmed by our use of non-renewable resources. Overall, this zoo is probably one of the best I’ve ever been to and will definitely be going back in the future!
