Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh

3.8
#1 of 1,057 in Outdoors in Scotland
Over 1,000 rare and endangered animals reside at Edinburgh Zoo. On the 33 hectare (82 acre) site, you can see the UK's only two giant pandas and meet its only koalas. Follow the Budongo Trail to interact with chimpanzees and learn more about their connection with humans. View exotic and colorful species of birds in the aviary, observe sun bears in their state-of-the-art enclosure, and sit among diverse collections of trees and flowers in the zoo's garden. These are just a few examples of the experiences available here. Viewing the giant pandas is included in the admission price, but you must reserve your place in advance online. • Went to Edinburgh Zoo Zoo nights last night. Lovely atmosphere, plenty to do. Most food stalls and bars have card readers do don't worry if you forget to bring cash. The magician was the highlight of the night. Great to see the zoo in a way you wouldn't normally.

Where to stay in Edinburgh

Edinburgh hides a maze of cobbled streets dotted with boutique hotels offering inexpensive rooms and outstanding restaurants. Many of the city's Gothic buildings house chic hotels with easy access to most of the city’s main tourist sites. For a uniquely Scottish experience, consider staying in the famous old town. Despite being in this historical district, many hotels here feature contemporary decor with lots of glass walls and muted color schemes. They’re also known for offering spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and restaurants serving classic European cuisine, with a modern Scottish twist.
