Edinburgh Old Town, Edinburgh

(4.8/5 based on 9,000+ reviews on the web)
Take a historical stroll through Edinburgh Old Town, the oldest part of Scotland’s capital. This neighborhood, a protected World Heritage Site, is noted for its remarkably well-preserved medieval streets and many Reformation-era buildings. Wander through this vast network of narrow alleys and old cobbled streets to see and photograph Edinburgh Castle and the grand Holyroodhouse Palace. Stop by Saint Giles’ Cathedral, featuring a world-famous vaulted ceiling and ornate tombs, or visit the National Museum of Scotland to see its priceless collection of artifacts. Several guided tours are available in this area, including the Vaults Tour, which takes you beneath the town’s surface and into the secret subterranean chambers that once housed the city’s poor.
