Edinburgh Old Town, Edinburgh
(4.8/5 based on 8,500+ reviews on the web)
Take a historical stroll through Edinburgh Old Town, the oldest part of Scotland’s capital. This neighborhood, a protected World Heritage Site, is noted for its remarkably well-preserved medieval streets and many Reformation-era buildings. Wander through this vast network of narrow alleys and old cobbled streets to see and photograph Edinburgh Castle and the grand Holyroodhouse Palace. Stop by Saint Giles’ Cathedral, featuring a world-famous vaulted ceiling and ornate tombs, or visit the National Museum of Scotland to see its priceless collection of artifacts. Several guided tours are available in this area, including the Vaults Tour, which takes you beneath the town’s surface and into the secret subterranean chambers that once housed the city’s poor. • Very old buildings, many tourist shops and museums, some free. Some good pubs, better class restaurants and down to earth cafes. Something for everyone.
  • Fantastic! The real edinburgh, steeped in history and you can feel it as you walk down these cobbled steets. A must for everyone!
  • Take the Royal mile or Victoria street or the Meadows or Greyfriars bobby, the old town has everything to offer you. Great student friendly pubs and above all a feeling of walking through 18th century...  more »
