Science Museum Museum
Take a trip through space and time at Dynamic Earth, a science center situated at the foot of Edinburgh’s Salisbury Crags. Opened in 1999, the center was the centerpiece of an urban regeneration plan meant to bring vitality to a former industrial zone. Today, the center teaches visitors about the processes that shaped our planet over millions of years, from the Big Bang to abiogenesis, plate tectonics, and glaciation. Use the center’s 3D and 4D interactive exhibits to witness the creation of the Earth, and then follow the planet through millions of years of evolution, touching, feeling, and smelling the adventure as you proceed through history. Visit the site’s ShowDome to see 360-degree dome films about astronomy and space exploration. By using our Edinburgh trip builder, you can arrange your visit to Dynamic Earth and other attractions in Edinburgh.

  • Dynamic earth is a bit like Ikea. You go in the front door and wend your way on a path that allows for no deviation and you are committed to it to the end (well almost). Think of this attraction as se...  more »

  • Best education centre of its kind I've visited in Britain. Kids loved the different zones, especially my 8yo son. I was concerned I'd overpaid looking at the foyer and entrance but I soon realised this was going to be fun and informative. The young staff are great and help to maintain the sense of a journey. The time travel and programme means it was never overcrowded. We didn't use the cafe, it looked fairly standard.
  • Fantastic attraction. I have been here several times now and it is amazing. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. There is so much to see and do here. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in geography and earth. The gift shop is very reasonable too.
  • Loved this place. Great interactive exhibits for kids... and big kids 😊 Well worth a visit and a few return visits too
  • Didn't know what to expect from Dynamic Earth and was pleasantly surprised. Different rooms explore different climates and it was incredibly interesting and effective Great for children. There is a sense of having to get through things at a lightening pace though and it can be over quicker than you may like. The restaurant food looked a bit sorry for itself as well.
  • Really interesting and interactive. The tour idea is brilliant and ensures you don't miss anything. Pretty expensive though.
