  • Went here mainly for somewhere different to have a cup of tea but was tempted into the museum. It is far bigger than it appears inside with some interesting pieces and articles well laid out.
  • I visited the Redoubt on a sunny but cold November day. Very few other people there. The redoubt itself looked a bit unloved but the museum was worth it. Perhaps I will come back in the summer and see...  more »

  • An attraction in Eastbourne that is often overlooked as it is a little outside the town centre; the Redoubt is nonetheless worth a visit. There is a lot more to see than you would think from merely walking past, it is easy to while away an afternoon taking in local history and seeing how the soldiers would have lived in both Napoleonic and later times. The Outpost Café within the fortress is a pleasant place for a cuppa and a bite to eat and you don't have to pay the entrance fee to use it. Entrance to the parade ground and gun platform are also free if you fancy sticking your toe in the water before paying to enter the main buildings. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the place. As with most museums the exhibits are changed around each season so even if you have visited in the past it's well worth another look.
  • A well maintained military museum. The staff are helpful and friendly. The staff have worked very hard to make the exhibits child friendly. The Outpost Cafe is a must for coffee and cake during your visit.
  • Brilliant for the kids. There was a pirate school on when we went in the summer and a treasure hunt to complete around the fortress. Great value, friendly staff and a good museum too (including uniforms and early gas masks for the kids to dress up in)- was probably one of our best value and enjoyed outings of our break.
  • Interesting place with interactive exhibits and museum. Gives a good insight to life during the Napoleonic war. Lovely cafe with nice cakes!
  • I think it is a interesting place and it gives a good insight to life during the Napoleonic war.
