Thanks to our wonderfully enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide Danny - this was one of the best NTS sites we have visited. A simple mill? you might be forgiven for thinking there's not much to learn. ... read more »
Have visited this place twice with my young family and on both occasions it's been an delight. I think my oldest son was perhaps a miller in a previous life, as he has something of an obsession with waterwheels and his enthusiasm rubs off on me whenever we are here. It's such a pretty building, in a beautiful rural location with lovely countryside walks nearby it's easy to spend hours here or in the immediate area, especially when the sun shines. I've taken the optional internal tour twice as it's always interesting to see the working innards of such a beautifully preserved piece of history. The only thing that could make Preston Mill any better as a visitor attraction would be better availability of snacks and refreshments. They have a coffee machine on site and some local confectionery on sale but those hoping for a sandwich, etc will be disappointed - so bring your own picnic.
It is so beautiful and peaceful here.
Lovely little place and walk
Picturesque historic working watermill. Well worth a visit.
