  • Not a huge amount to see and you do have to use your imagination, but interesting nonetheless. Easy to walk around and good access.  more »
  • When you take in the Stonehenge landscape as a whole, Woodhenge is quite an interesting side trip to take along with it's counterpart. It completes the circuit that our ancestors made. While theories ...  more »

  • Screw Stonehenge. It is a horrible soulless place that has been ruined by English Heritage. Do yourself a favour and save yourself whatever the exorbitant Stonehenge entrance fee is these days and go to Woodhenge. It is basically a field with circles of squat concrete bollards in it that represent where the wood pillars of the stone age were situated. It is kinda spooky and kinda eerie and really neato kids. And you don't have to trek to it unless you have ambitiously undertaken one of the various hikes in the area that connect up some of these ancient sites on the Salisbury Plain. Tip 1: there is next to no parking so if you can go outside of school holidays or on a week day you'll be better off. Tip 2: take a picnic, your sense of humour, and some childlike wonder. Tip 3: it is in a field so be sensible about your footwear. Tip 4: climb all over the concrete like a dumb*** 5 year old.
  • Completely FREE to visit all year round. Easy to reach, just off the main road. Limited off road parking (2 areas, each with approx 4 spaces), but easy to park on the road on a quieter day. It usually is a nice quiet spot, unless, like today, people try to use it as a cut through to avoid the A303 traffic jam to get around the back way to Stonehenge. If you go on such a day, don't risk parking on the road if you value your wing mirrors! The road is wide, but the "rat runners" are fierce! Woodhenge is very well kept. Concrete posts now mark where the wood once stood. It is a site of extreme national importance and from here you can either negotiate the sheep poop and rabbit holes to walk to the Cuckoo Stone and/or walk to parts of the Durrington Walls.
  • Worth a visit if your passing just so you cab say you've seen it but I wouldn't go out if your way
  • Interesting part of the Stonehenge story, but you have to use your imagination much more. A field full of 2 foot high concrete pillars mark where there were once 30 foot wooden ones. A single information board explains the background with a couple of helpful illustrations. It helps to have quite a strong interest to appreciate the significance of this site.
  • One of the more natural and less publicly known attractions in the area, it is a simple but very intriguing attraction. And best of all it is free. Can't go wrong in my eyes
