Crook Hall & Gardens, Durham

4.8
#1 of 21 in Parks in County Durham
Crook Hall & Gardens is a rare example of three eras of English architecture--Medieval, Jacobean, and Georgian--set in idyllic themed gardens. The history of those who have lived in Crook Hall & Gardens is varied, and each family has left their mark on the property. It is currently the home of Keith and Maggie Bell, whose family has lived here for three generations. Inside you can discover the quirks and treasures of this historic home. Try to spot the White Lady who is rumored to haunt the old stairs. Stroll through the gardens, all of which have their own histories (some dating back centuries) and personalities. Discover the orchard, vegetable garden, moat pool, and maze. Soak up the charming English atmosphere over a homemade cream tea in the courtyard, or get cozy in front of a log fire in the Georgian dining room. Pick up the Garden Guide at the entrance, which gives insight into the history of the property and life at the hall for the Bells. Using our world travel planner, Durham attractions like Crook Hall & Gardens can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
