  • Those who love Scottish castles help yourself another way because of that very few stones remain, that recall scarcely the appearance. Those who love landscapes of Scotland, here to stop and enjoy, in addition to the steep promontory on which stands the ruin, the rest of the vision of the surroundings, of land and of water. You will not be disappointed.

  • Duntulm castle has a long history but now it`s completely in ruins. Not that well preserved either. It was forbidden to visit the ruins in July, because it was dangerous. Didn`t seem to matter to peop...  more »
  • Just wonderful is the landscape that can be enjoyed from the cliff on which stand the remains of a ruined castle, which seems particularly appreciated also from sheep that graze just behind. The colors of nature are those of the collective imagination: an intensely blue sea and sky, while everything else is a fresh green and perky. It's the greenery of Scotland, covering the mountains and hills that are typical of these landscapes crossed by frequent streams and surrounded by a sea of deep tones. There seem to be just them: the sky, the sea and greenery. Sporadic homes that meet for the little road that skirts the cliffs. This is a magical place, as indeed is the whole Isle of Skye.

  • The journey to the Castle is enjoyable with winding roads and scenic views. Duntulm Castle Ruin is small but charming. The headland is made up of sweeping hills and wide open spaces, so wrap up warm!. If your out & about in the area it's certainly worth taking a wee peek at this lovely little castle ruin.
  • I sat near here on the longest day of the year and watched a beautiful sunset over the Western Isles.
  • Duntulm castle is a picturesque ruin on the top of a cliff. There is parking for around 6-8 cars and a path through some sheep fields to reach this, the gradient in places is steep. A lot of the ruin has been robbed out to build houses and what's left is structurally unsafe. The access to the ruin itself is locked up (although the gate is easily climbed should you wish to risk your neck). You can get within 20 metres at the waist high fence though without having to risk this though. The slope down to the sea allows access to some rocks that seemed popular with rod fishermen and some accessible rockpools for explorers.
  • Interesting as it was originally built by Vikings. Later taken as home of the McDonald of Sleat Clan Chief. Not accessible by those with walking issues. Some steep uphill/downhill walking on grass terrain, shared by sheep (droppings!). Can be slippery if damp. Unable to enter the castle ruins (for safety), but breathtaking views!
  • No bathroom facilities (or roof). Nice to stop by, or even take the small hike to get close. Can't walk around it as it is dangerous.
