  • I had a great guide who showed me round and explained both the history and architectural aspects of the castle. Truly very interesting. There is a steep slope up to the castle which rewards you with commanding views over the surrounding area, and this free to go to. To enter the castle costs £4.50 (2016). There are steep steps to the first floor and a spiral staircase to the top. My favourite bit was the luxury and lower prisons complete with (harmless) cave spiders. Very atmospheric.
  • The guided tour is amazing. It is very informative and really brings the history of the castle to life. It is staffed by some very dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers.
  • One of my favourites good friendly staff plus there is a history of the castle
  • absolutely fantastic castle with an important historical background! big thanks to Collin! he told us the whole story about it! this was 1,5 interesting hours! the admission charge of 4,50£ is justified!
  • If you want to go into the castle, make sure you go into the visitor centre first as that is where the tickets are sold, easy to miss if you park at the wrong end of the car park! Loverly staff work here though, plus a coffee shop.
