  • I have been meaning to have a walk around here for a while and today I finally managed to. There were only a handful of people in the grounds when I visited and that was around 12 noon. The cemetery i...  more »
  • This is an old, old cemetery in the heart of Dundee. It has a long and interesting history. It can be a little spooky if you go in at dusk, but it's really quite lovely.
  • Maybe not worth a special visit unless you're really into graveyards, but as an insight into the incredilbly hard lives of Dundonians 200 years ago this place has no peer. Just read those headstones

  • Interesting wee area of calm in the middle of the town centre.
  • Beautiful grave stones with intriguing skull & cross bone markings.
  • It's a small cemetery but it's very nice and interesting, with a little mist surrounding the graves... much better :)
  • The Howff Burial Grounds were established in 1564 by Mary, Queen of Scots, and includes graves up to 1857. I have a particular interest in historical grave markers and, given this, visited many cemeteries in Scotland. The Howff had, by far, the best collection of 16th-19th century tombstones and memorials I've come across. If you're interested in old cemeteries, this is well worth going out of your way to visit. In my case, I came to Dundee exclusively for The Howff, and I was not disappointed.
  • Full of character, with a great history
