We went along here as it was close to our hotel and were met at the reception and given a brief history of the Unicorn. We spent just over an hour exploring the different levels of the boat and the ki... read more »

Less well known than its neighbour, the RRS Discovery, round the corner, but no less impressive. She's unusual in that she was never given masts or rigged, and her only voyage was under tow from where she was built in Kent to Dundee, but she's one of only a few remaining wooden hulled frigates built as part of a reserve fleet. The interior space is well preserved and it'd a great place for adults and children alike. I had a relative on the young offender 'prison' ship 'Mars' which was anchored in the river Tay at Dundee for over 60 years - seeing round the Unicorn gives somewhat of an insight into what life was like living on board an old ship. Admission very reasonable. Highly recommended.
I'd not been on the Unicorn since i was a child. It's very affordable, and you could spend all day on there! the kids loved being down below decks!
This is a unique British, Georgian built vessel still in the water. Great experience for youngster who are able to range through the decks in comparative safety. Guns, eating areas, bunks, hammocks and carpenters walkway all create the most authentic experience of ship-board life in the sale-age.
Beautiful frigate warrior.
Visited the Frigate Saturday 19th September 2015. What an interesting ship to wander round and try to imagine how seamen could possibly work - even exist - in such conditions. Well worth a visit. Dundee really needs to tell the world about this vessel - the only on left in the world. Wooden, built in 1824 -could be 1842 - so totally unique. If you are in or near Dundee you must pay HM Frigate Unicorn a visit. Incidentally you can hold functions on board - there was to be a wedding reception the evening we were there - what a fabulous venue!!
