Perched on a point surrounded by the waters of the Firth of Tay, Broughty Castle Museum stands as a survivor of multiple battles, sieges, and conflicts. Originally constructed at the tail end of the 15th century, this stout fortress has undergone multiple improvements and renovations throughout its history. Visit the sturdy castle and explore its museum documenting the development of the surrounding town and its people. Learn about the tumultuous years leading up to 1550, when the structure switched hands between the warring Scots, French, and English several times in a short span. Afterward, be sure to climb up to the top deck and enjoy sweeping views over the town, coast, and the Firth of Tay. Broughty Castle was on my weekend itinerary, so, having checked the website, I rushed over there in time for an afternnon visit. The location is great, and the weather was remarkably kind, but though.... more »

this castle is worth a visit for the history of castle and area given to me by very helpful staff member Andrew who told me all about the castle and area more »

Nice castle which is free to visit. On a good day it's nice but very small. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area. The beach next to the castle is good as it gets in Scotland if you go on a nice day. From the top of the castle there is a mesh fence so it's hard to see much view.

I've always loved looking around this place and it's hardly changed since I was wee, which I find oddly comforting. I now take my own son, and he loves it. The exhibits are interesting and the view from the top is great on a clear day. The narrow staircase is a bit of a harrowing experience getting up and down but there is not a lot that can be done about that understandably.

Great place to visit and entrance is free. Lots of narrow step so not a place if you're not good on your feet. Play park beside the castle is a must for all kids especially young kids

Friendly staff, well presented, clean and tidy, lots to look at. Took my visiting family there ages 20month - 80years and they all enjoyed it.

Wonderful place to explore for adults and kids alike. Steeped in history. Be prepared for a steep climb via the steps to all floors. The further up one goes, the steps become narrower and steeper! One staircase has just ropes to hang onto and another a metal hand rail. The museum curator (Andy) gave interesting talk on history of building.
