The Droitwich Spa Lido is a lido in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire, England. It is one of the few remaining inland, open-air salt-water swimming pools in the UK.Brief historyThe Lido was originally built in the 1930s and the building features an art-deco style interior. The pool itself was filled with diluted brine, pumped from brine streams beneath the town. The salt in the water was strong enough to keep the water in the pool aseptic, without the need for additional chemicals such as chlorine. When the lido opened, it was marketed as the 'seaside come to Droitwich Spa', and the pool was heated to exactly the same temperature as the Mediterranean Sea.During the Second World War, the lido was closed, and its offices used by the military.ResurrectionThe lido continued to be a popular tourist attraction. Even after its closure at the end of the 1990s, people still travelled for miles just to see the once-popular pool.In late 2004, Wychavon District Council voted against the re-opening of the lido, which sparked a local campaign group to form, with the sole aim of seeing the lido restored. Called "Save a Lido Today" (SALT), the group put pressure on the various councils and even went so far as to provide a business plan.

  • Apparently there are not very many Lidos existing in the UK ! Droitwich Lido , is delightful , it has all the elegance and charm of the Lido ,I remember in Tooting London as a child , but way better ,...  more »
  • Must get there about half hour early to get in, otherwise your queuing for ages. I took kids from 1 to 10, the older ones enjoyed themselves but the water was too cold for the younger ones. We went on a hot day but it was cloudy, think it's best to go on a clear day. There are no slides or anything like that just the pool and little water play area for younger kids. Kids under 8 must be supervised at all time even if they can swim.
  • Wow what a great day out... Clean, tidy and very well maintained... Staff and lifeguards friend, helpful and professional... Good to get here early and avoid a long wait.. Parking only £4 for all day...

  • I don't like the way they run this park, they would not let me out the gates to get a brolly outside of the car, I don't know if its legal to do this in my opinion it amounts to false imprisonment, I got into a a row with them because they asked me why I wanted to go out and I said it was none of their business, reminded me of Hitler's Germany during the war.
