White Cliffs of Dover, Dover

(4.7/5 based on 1,600+ reviews on the web)
The White Cliffs of Dover represent the most famous facet of the English coastline due to their proximity to Continental Europe, striking appearance, and role in forming a symbolic barrier to invasion. Bask in the view that for hundreds of years served as the first or last sight of England for travellers heading to or from Europe. If it’s a clear day, you can even view France from on top of the cliffs. Walk on one of the clearly marked paths or simply sit and watch the bustling port of Dover. If you want to seek shelter from the marine winds, browse the gift shop or enjoy a cup of tea in the cafe. Sturdy shoes are recommended for rambling on top of the cliffs as the chalk, to which the cliffs owe their white appearance, can become slippery if wet. Put White Cliffs of Dover on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Dover travel itinerary planner.

  • If you come by ferry to sail towards Dover then you see from afar. The White Cliffs of Dover, the white chalk cliffs, a special experience. Just above Dover, in Swingate is quite a walking path with a fine look at the chalk cliffs landscaped with a restaurant and shop. Did you know that in France also chalk cliffs are. The channel tunnel is also not just on the sea floor, as many think, but is drilled by the under the sea lying chalk layer. Three tunnels, a train tunnel, a railway tunnel and a flight tunnel there between.

  • Lovely view but alas I couldn't make it too high but the view was still brill. Wear reasonable walking shoes and be prepared for a long climb.  more »
