  • From the outside, it doesn't look all that big, but inside it's like a rabbit warren. On a few occasions I thought I had seen everything, only to spot another doorway. A mixture of subjects are on dis...  more »

  • This museum is housed in a wonderful Victorian building which was purpose-built to show off exhibits relating to the county of Dorset. The main room is a massive "temple" with a gallery upstairs, very...  more »

  • Nice museum, lots about the local county and history, including archeology and roman life around area.. Friendly staff and administration fee reasonable..
  • Amazing displays, great layout. Excellent value for money and terrific way to learn about local history. Particularly loved the display hall dedicated to Thomas Hardy.
  • Had a night at the museum organised by the Jurassic rangers. What a thrill for everyone. Check out photo of our room mates.
  • A great place to spend a few hours finding out more about this amazing county. It has a particularly good bit upstairs taking you through the various stages of habitation. It had a lot of information about a few key notables, especially Hardy, that I found a bit dull. It could also be organised a bit more logically as I found myself jumping from the bronze age to the Victorians and then back to the Romans. Some of the exhibits looked like they were being dismantled but I think it is about to have an extensive renovation. They had tried to be more appealing to children with a room with dinosaur exhibits but I doubt the rest of the museum would hold kids' attentions for long. Overall we had a really good time and are looking forward to visiting again after the renovation is complete.
  • This is a great little museum with an impressive display for a small town. The Roman floors are beautiful.
