Where to stay in Derry

Derry, or Londonderry, town center is a lively place to stay. Although the town itself suffered during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, the center stayed safe and has thrived. Consider an inn in the town center, perhaps a building painted with one of the well-known murals. less expensive hotels are available just outside the town's central area, close enough to the main attractions for convenient access.

  • Good for walks and runs. There's a running track. Play areas for kids are great. Sports facilities include 5 tennis courts and swimming pool, gym, climbing wall among others.
  • Too many drinkers and running clubs use too love it but since peace bridge went up I've tried to avoid it
  • This park was better for dog walkers before the Peace Bridge was built. Back then it had more space to walk with fewer people about. While they where building the Peace Bridge they also cut down lots of trees in the park to make way for new cycle paths which have some steep climbs. There are two very good children's play area with climbing logs, Zip Line etc, There's a Cafe at Saint Coloums House in the middle of the park, which has free unlocked wi-fi. In good weather there's lot more people from the city side who come over sun bathing and some drinking. Some cyclists travel to fast on the cycle paths and it wouldn't be as safe later on in the day as it used to be for women on there own. There plenty of parking with no height restrictions. There is public toilets at a side entrance in the new Foyle Arena building.
  • Lovely park great for taking your kids to play in or taking your dog for a walk. The playpark is a good walk from the entrance so be prepared for tired legs on the way back
