  • The usual museum set-up and not much emphasis on Derby history due to the 'history of childrens tv' and the war section. I liked the crockery/porcelain room - reminded me of my Chatsworth House visit ...  more »

  • Really nice afternoon out with some unexpectedly interesting exhibits. I was incredibly impressed by how friendly all the staff were to my 2 year old granddaughter. It made the visit fun and relaxing. So often places in the UK are not friendly to kids.
  • Nothing of the spectacular or British museum kind. But for a small city it is well interesting enough. Good bits on the war history and great local art. Good 30 minute visit
  • Relatively small recently renovated museum but well worth allowing at least 2 or 3 hours for a visit. Excellent range of exhibits to suit all tastes and interests. Centrepiece is the Joseph Wright collection. Well worth a visit especially if you also have an interest in contemporary local celebrities, notably Richard Arkwright and John Flamsteed. Cafe also recommended. Freshly prepared fare. Reasonable choice at reasonable prices.
  • Worth a visit if only to see the collection of Joseph Wright paintings. Three floors filled with ceramics, drawings, paintings, taxidermy, uniforms, natural and historical artefacts + variety of temporary exhibitions (affordable art on sale at Summer and Christmas exhibition - local and national artists).
  • I really enjoyed the local archlogical finds. Lots of varied things for different intrests. Staff where helpful and welcoming
