Home to the famous D-Day bagpipes of Piper Bill Millin Dawlish Museum has 11 rooms over 3 floors bursting with local artifacts and fascinating facts about the towns history. There is a special room dedicated to the horrendous storm of early February 2014 which left the railway line hanging in mid-air and the rail network cut off from the rest of the UK. Using archive photographs and video it tells not only the story of the storm and the unbelievable damage caused to the railway infrastructure but also the herculean efforts made by Network Rail engineers to re-open the line. With quizzes and dressing up costumes too for the little ones there is something to see and do for everyone at Dawlish Museum , whatever their age.

  • What a wonderful gem of local history and information. The start can't do enough to help you and are so enthusiastic
  • This is a fascinating little museum. Tucked away at the back of a car park in the town, it is a little difficult to find but well worth the effort. Having paid the small entrance we were immediately engrossed in the first room all about Piper Bill Millins. I won't spoil the surprise but we must have spent about an hour just in this room. The rest of the museum is all about local history including the storm in 2014 which demolished part of the railway line in Dawlish. The museum relies on entrance fees and donations which is a pity as it deserves better funding. Please give it a visit, you won't be disappointed.
  • Fantastic own funded museum. Well worth a visit.
  • A hidden gem. Lots to see covering lots of topics - includes piper bill millins famous d-day bagpipes.
