Inspirock Rating:
3.6/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web
With fine sand and turquoise blue waters, Blackpool Sands lays claim as one of South Devon's most spectacular tourist sites. The beach receives daily cleaning during the summer months. Swim in the clean, clear waters or, if you are more adventurous, hire a sea kayak or a boogie board. The beach offers shower and toilet facilities, including disabled facilities. Lifeguards are on duty, but only during the summer season. Enjoy an organic meal made with local produce in the Venus Beach cafe. For a change from the beach, visit the Blackpool Gardens and explore the paths through the trees and shrubs as you enjoy views of the sea. The garden is open between April and September. • Not easy to reach and not cheap to park, this private beach is still worth the effort. Seen from any angle, it is breathtakingly beautiful. Sorry, no dogs, no overnight parking. Shingle not sand.
  • Sort it out Blackpool Sands! You are ripping the public off! If I had the time I'd complain to the council but this is a better platform for the public to see. I drove 30 minutes to arrive at a sign requesting £2 entrance fee! What? It's a public beach!!!! Or £7 for a car of four! Are you kidding? Just because you know you have a captive audiance because there's no-where else to park it doesn't mean you can rip us off! I turned round and drove into Dartmouth parked for FREE and spent my money there.
  • (11/7/2016) We came all the way from Eastbourne, East Sussex to spend 7 days in Dartmouth, only to spend time in Blackpool Sands beach. We based our holiday on this spot, only because on our Google research "sandiest beaches in England" Blackpool Sands was , and still is, according to google, the top of the list. We came loaded with buckets, spades and all building castle accessories with high hopes and excitment to buid beyond sand castle. For our amazement and shock, there was not a single grain of sand on sight!!! The whole beach is covered in fine gravel mixed with small stones and pebbles. Our 6 year old was inconsolable and the adults very angry with the wrong information given online. We are giving 3 stars only because the cafè on the site offer very good food and the staff are very polite and friendly. Also, its next door shop offers a big range of beach toys and ironically, all sort of sand castle building accessories. Please don't get us wrong, the spot is just beautiful and worth seeing. Do visit it if you about, but if you want to please your little ones with sand playing activities, Blackpool Sands in Dartmouth is not the place for you.
  • Good sized beach however there is no sand (despite its name...) but instead fine gravel and stones. Parking can cost up to £7 for cars though this is reduced to £5 in the afternoons.
  • The beach is tidy and very spacious, on the right weather you sometimes may think that you're not in UK! There is a café with attractions, quite expensive but there isn't any other cafés around apart from this one.
  • Drove all the way from West Midlands with high expectations. Was really disappointed to arrive there and there to be no sand . Very disappointed children had to drive all the way to bude u can never be let down by that beach with sand .
