Blackpool Sands, Dartmouth
(3.5/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
With fine sand and turquoise blue waters, Blackpool Sands lays claim as one of South Devon's most spectacular tourist sites. The beach receives daily cleaning during the summer months. Swim in the clean, clear waters or, if you are more adventurous, hire a sea kayak or a boogie board. The beach offers shower and toilet facilities, including disabled facilities. Lifeguards are on duty, but only during the summer season. Enjoy an organic meal made with local produce in the Venus Beach cafe. For a change from the beach, visit the Blackpool Gardens and explore the paths through the trees and shrubs as you enjoy views of the sea. The garden is open between April and September. • Lovely off season walk. With cafe, shop, toilets and large car park. Crystal clean water and stunning cliff scenery.
  • We went to Venus Cafe for breakfast and had to return for lunch too!!! The sun shone and the atmosphere was wonderful. We could sit out on the verandah (glass windbreak) for both meals.
  • Be aware that this is a private beach with its own rules and regulations. If you are arriving in a car, that means that you are going to be using their car park, no ifs or buts. This was £4 usually bu...  more »

  • Entrance fee of £7.00 parking was a complete rip off. I don't mind paying if the beach was lovely & sandy. In the official guide to Dartmouth it is described as coarse sand. It's not coarse sand at all, it's small pebbles/shingle. Kids will find it hard to play on. Very clean. Lovely scenery. Not sandy at all.
  • Very pebbly, no sandcastle sand. Prices hiked right up for peak season, £7 to park no matter how long. £5 for a bacon sandwich. Wouldn't recommend. To many other nice beaches around, why this one thinks it can charge so much, I don't know?
  • I used to go there in the 90's when there was nothing there no cafe or anything. Free parking. Went about 3 years ago & they were charging £7 for parking & £2 entrance fee. Absolute ripoff. No wonder it's secluded! No one wants to pay for something that should be free.
  • Sort it out Blackpool Sands! You are ripping the public off! If I had the time I'd complain to the council but this is a better platform for the public to see. I drove 30 minutes to arrive at a sign requesting £2 entrance fee! What? It's a public beach!!!! Or £7 for a car of four! Are you kidding? Just because you know you have a captive audiance because there's no-where else to park it doesn't mean you can rip us off! I turned round and drove into Dartmouth parked for FREE and spent my money there.
  • This beach makes you feel like you have left the UK it is quite simply amazing. If you want a quiet, unspoiled beach then head for Blackpool Sands.
