Antony Gormley's Another Place, Crosby

4.5
Antony Gormley's Another Place provides a profound setting for modern sculptures. The installation features 100 cast-iron figures each 189 cm (74 in) tall and weighing about 650 kg (1,400 lb), spread out over an area of beach 3.2 km (2 mi) long. It evokes both the sadness of leaving and the hopeful expectation associated with emigration. All of the sculptures resemble the artist who created them, Antony Gormley. They stand facing the water, stretching nearly 1 km (.63 mi) out to sea. Time your visit with the tide schedule; high tide submerges many of the sculptures and might not be the best time for a viewing. Sunset is ideal so long as the tide isn't fully in. Antony Gormley's Another Place is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Crosby Edition.

  • I travelled up by train from Birmingham to visit Cosby Beach and the Antony Gormley 'Another Place' sculptures on Sunday 25th March. On a beautiful day at low tide it was easy to reach the statues on ...  more »
  • It was possibly the wrong time to be there. High tide had obscured a lot of the 'men'. It didn't spoil the day out. Glad I saw them on a couple of other occasions! Tip check the tides!!  more »

  • Very unique place. Wonderful to see the statues across the beach. Quite surreal. Large car park, there was a food van there on the day we went. Had a coffee and lovely Apple pie! Chargeable toilets, but clean. Worth a visit if visiting Liverpool!
  • Easy to access the beach from nearby residential streets with free parking is a huge plus! Beautiful beach but lacks amenities such as basic coffee shop/ cafe and public toilets. Nearest toilets/ cafe were at the leisure centre and only one disabled cubicle was working last time we were there and the cafe was not good. The beach is a great place to enjoy family time and is also dog friendly. Perfect for picnicking and paddling without the queuing and paying for car parking as you would at very nearby Formby.
  • Superb art installation but check the tides. There are / were 100 cast iron figures, they are all staring out to the sea. To see the most figures you must go there when the tide is all the way out. Just don't get caught out by the sea coming back in.
  • Easy to find! plenty of parking and access for disabled. The sculptures were amazing !! We had the weather for it and the tide was out which was a bonus!
  • Interesting art installation going far into the Mersey. Great on a sunny day, different with high and low tides, amazing with snow!
