Antony Gormley's Another Place, Crosby
Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Antony Gormley's Another Place provides a profound setting for modern sculptures. The installation features 100 cast-iron figures each 189 cm (74 in) tall and weighing about 650 kg (1,400 lb), spread out over an area of beach 3.2 km (2 mi) long. It evokes both the sadness of leaving and the hopeful expectation associated with emigration. All of the sculptures resemble the artist who created them, Antony Gormley. They stand facing the water, stretching nearly 1 km (.63 mi) out to sea. Time your visit with the tide schedule; high tide submerges many of the sculptures and might not be the best time for a viewing. Sunset is ideal so long as the tide isn't fully in.
