Conwy Town Walls, Conwy

4.8
Visit the medieval world’s answer to sophisticated government defense at Conwy Town Walls. Walk along the walls for less than 1.6 km (1 mi), then tour the full structure and inspect its 12 towers, three gate houses, 480 firing positions, and 12 ancient latrines. The walls date to 1287 and were among the most expensive installations of the time. They served to protect Conway Castle, which they did through several rebellions. Today, they remain completely intact and are among the best preserved in Europe. See Conwy Town Walls and all Conwy has to offer by arranging your trip with our Conwy travel itinerary planner .

Ok, maybe a bit foolish to compare this with Dubrovnik but it has as much walking interest and is free (unlike Dubrovnik). You can walk around most of the central part of Conwy in one section without ...  more »

  • Great walk, but the first tower after the castle was blocked off so we had to go back and down again. Best place to pick up the walls is in the opposite corner, by the water on the far end from the castle. You can then walk all the way up away from the water to the highest point and the across the back of town to the railway station. Fabulous views.
  • Fab free walk along well preserved. Better than Chester!
  • we went for a quick walk along the top of the walls from the car park portal to the castle entrance, much better than walking on the ground with the peasants. ;-)
  • You can walk about three quarters of the way around the old walled town of Conwy (with a brief interuption) on the walls. It's definitely worth the walk. You can start either down by the water or over at the castle. Be sure to ascend to the top of the corner tower to get a great view of the town and castle.
  • This walk on the wall is worth going on, it's got some lovely views from both side of the wall.
