  • Easily accessible paths, good for prams and wheelchairs. One of my favourite daily walks, around 1 mile around the Mere. Lots of birds and a good view of the sky, a bit bracing on a windy day!
  • This is a lovely circular walk - flat - however if you're pushing a pram it's quite bumpy. I don't know how people get on with wheel chairs. It's a lovely setting but you are constantly looking on the...  more »
  • The circular walk around the lake is about 2 kilometres and is flat. Plenty ducks, swans and dogs on land; well maintained and clean with some strange people living in tents trying to catch fish even ...  more »

  • It's a nice park but sadly the anglers have fenced off most of the beaches leaving just the grass and woods open when the big attraction used to be the waters edge. I used to play here as a kid and it's getting increasingly encroached on by new houses, people expanding their gardens, the fishermen putting up fences and sheer numbers of people visiting in summer. It's no longer the quiet, peaceful place it was as a kid. The rough dirt tracks which were fun to ride your bike along were replaced by overly wide, perfectly level paths which while making the place very accessible take away from the nature of the place along with the fenced off beaches and the ever encroaching properties. It's a good place to get out too, but it's not the same any more, it used to be a fun place for kids and have a sense of nature about it, now it's just full of dog walkers, buggies and anglers and no nature.
  • Excellent place to take the dog and children for a walk around. There is somewhere to buy icecream after a nice walk around the lake and you also can do watersports.
  • I walk the dog around the Astbury Mere every morning (rain hail or shine) - love it
  • We always enjoy a pleasant walk around the Mere. The walk takes about 30 to 40 minutes at a leisurely pace and is flat. Suitable for bikes and buggies etc. There is plenty of car parking spaces and a small cafe/ice cream van in the fine weather. Would recommend taking young kids to blow off some steam!
  • Beautiful hidden gem, just 10 minutes walk from Congleton town centre. Very popular with locals and visitors alike. I have strolled around the whole perimiter with my wife and grandchildren, thanks to the path provided. My daughters use the Mere most Saturday mornings for the Park Run, and many other organisations use it too. For us, it is a family affair you could say!
