Been wanting to see this garden for years so had to include it in a tour through Esssex. The garden is all we had hoped it would be: large and beautifully planted . Why did we have to go back? Because...  more »

We visited the garden on a Sunday and it was not too crowded. The weather was sunny which made everything look wonderful. The gravel garden in particular is astonishing - it is full of plants that I d...  more »

  • These gardens are absolutely stunning and well worth more than one visit - preferably at different times of the year to see how the form and colour develop. In spring there are beautiful flowering shrubs to admire, whilst in summer the lakes are full of flowering aquatics like pickerel weed - not a weed at all, but spikes of lilac flowers above a mound of spear shaped leaves which emerge from the water in huge clumps.
  • Lovely gardens, the cheese scone in the cafe was very tasty and the plants on sale were first class!
  • We only called in to use the coffee shop on this occasion which was very pleasant with friendly staff and delicious cakes. We peeped over the wall and could see how delightful the gardens looked but we didn't have time to look round them on this occasion - they are £6.95 to enter. There is a large car park with picnic benches if you bring your own food too.
  • We visited couple of weeks ago, could only use tea shop had lovely snack & coffee didn't have time to visit gardens then, came back yesterday wasn't disappointed they were beautiful, the settings, the lakes. The history and the hard work involved definitely come back again, and the tea shop was lovely very clean, lovely food. Paula from clacton.
  • What a stunning garden. I want to live there!!! My advice would be to get there by 9am as we did. It was getting busy by 10:30 and if you want to enjoy the tranquility of the garden- be early. I treated myself to quite a few plants but couldn't get a couple of plants which I saw in the gardens, which is a shame as i had the perfect spot for them in my own garden. Thoroughly enjoyable visit! Thank you.
