  • Small but extremely picturesque National Trust Property. Bourne Mill is a 16th Century building, set alongside a large pond. Its grounds may not be large, but they are charming nonetheless. The outdoor sitting area provides an excellent place to stop for a cup of tea or coffee, next to the pond. The mill itself provides an excellent glimpse into the local happenings during Elizabethan times, and the working water wheel is a sight worth seeing. On a nice day, this place also provides plenty of photo opportunities.

Where to stay in Colchester

A short train ride from London, Colchester is a university and working town. Hotels in the town center are near the main attractions, but for less expensive lodging consider a room near the university campus, which is situated in a tree-filled parkland.
