  • Built at the start of the 16th Century, as a wedding present, Paycocke's is as charming an example of Tudor-era architecture as you could wish for. Painstakingly restored, the house itself is a maze of rooms and stairs, with ornate woodwork at every turn. If you're into late medieval history and architecture, this really is a must-see property. Paycocke's gardens are also of a decent size, with numerous places to sit and lounge on a sunny day, and the coffee shop serves excellent baked goods. Well worth taking a couple of hours to see, if you're exploring this picturesque village. Pro-Tip: Parking is scarce around this property, and indeed throughout the village itself. You're best off leaving your car at the nearby National Trust - Grange Barn, as your ticket for Paycocke's also covers entry to that property.
  • fascinating building in a lovely village. tea room has nice cakes too.
  • Delightful and well preserved house. A great thrill for me to visit as I am a descendant of the Buxton family, so this is kind of an ancestral home. Don't miss the gardens!
  • Lovely Essex village location and peaceful garden.
