First time visited today. Worth a visit. Staff friendly and helpful. Unfortunately it was raining at the time so didn't experience the gardens.
This is a great little museum in the former workhouse buildings. Not only does it cover the history of Christchurch but also a lot of the surrounding area including the iron age settlements at Hengistbury Head and local geology. Beautiful gardens and a nice little shop too.
Paid a visit to this local favourite of mine, the Red House Museum and Gardens, who are currently displaying early history, in the local area. Now I have seen a Mammoth's tooth, I realize how big they were! But, also Bargates was a Saxon burial site, who would have guessed? All in all, an entertaining and educational time.
Nice little museum, free entry and good for kids (for about 30 mins distraction ;-)
Nice little museum free entry too!
Nice place to visit of you're interested in the local history of Christchurch and surrounding areas. People involved with the Red House museum have done really well to maintain their 'no admission charge' policy but, needless to say, any help by way of donations is very much appreciated.
