  • went here a few weeks ago with my elderly mum, we both had hot sandwiches which were both filled with quality meat and were very nice. We had coffee which was also good. 
  • We had our wedding and reception at Heskin Hall on the 1st May 2016. One of the reasons why we choose Heskin Hall was the fact it would be specifically tailored to us and we could get everything we requested easily and without having to resort to a generic hotel package. We don’t feel we got this service fully as promised. And the response afterwards with basically a denial of all our valid issues just made us angry. Firstly the positives: The venue itself is great, we loved the wedding room, lantern room, bar and lounge. The food was very nice, everyone enjoyed the food at the afternoon tea and the evening buffet. The place was nicely presented and the turnaround for the night do was very good. The tables were decorated as requested and the colours were just as we wanted. Cake was beautiful, much better than we expected. Staff members we met were all nice and friendly. In general everything went well as a whole but the things that didn’t we didn’t get a satisfactory response on so I feel I have to leave this warning for others: I know Lynne has lots of positive comments on how she handles things and couldn’t do enough for some couples but in our case too many things were incorrect/wrong based on the very clear instructions we left and all the meetings we had. We are both planners and were very careful to leave lots of comprehensive notes/instructions. Lynne the day before reassured us it would all be okay and not to worry about things and enjoy the day. The first thing I saw when I arrived was my name incorrect on the door, not sure how it was possible to get this wrong, when I queried it a got a snotty response. I would be very embarrassed and apologetic if it was me but instead I got asked if I was sure that my name was wrong! Secondly when I had only been in the building 2 minutes I noticed the beers I requested were wrong - again an abrupt response to my query (‘that’s what they sent’). After these I didn’t bother querying anything else on the day, instead we replied later and because we didn’t respond on the day all our complaints have basically been dismissed or ignored. This is what has made us very angry and annoyed so I want let people know. Soft drinks as welcome drinks as agreed weren’t served so our guests who didn’t drink or the 20-odd kids who were there had to buy their own. I queried this and was told they were served but not a single person seems to have got one! Port we ordered with cheese was not served - we got the money back but it was not the point really. Cheese was served covered in fruit when we had specifically asked for this not to be. Lynne had an argument with our photographer after carpet was temporarily removed to take photos (as we agreed only 2 days before in person with her) as we knew it was likely to rain. Bar was very poorly staffed, regularly there was no-one there at all – several guests fed this back to me and I had to wait for several minutes myself at one point. There were other things I have issues with such as not providing cushions we had asked for to put on the brides seat to make it easier to sit on the chair. Personally I think it was a shame, I wouldn’t have written this if simple apologies and acknowledgement or issues had happened. I wish now we had ranted and raved on the day but we were trying to enjoy it. It is true we didn’t complain on the day or the day after but a couple of things we didn’t realise about until later on. It seems that they are unwilling to accept criticism. I hope our wedding experience was a one-off but be warned. I wonder if it was due to there being another wedding the day before ours that our wedding suffered and they had tried to do too much with basically one person in control of everything. No doubt the owners will respond and say we said it was all fine on the day which we may have done to be polite, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of care at our wedding and lies afterwards to try and cover up mistakes.

  • Wow what a great place for a wedding. The building is lovely, staff really nice and the food delicious and lots of it.
