  • This is a proper hidden gem. I've been on the mine tour twice now, and it's so good. If you've been on a mine tour somewhere else before and you're thinking, 'been there, done that', don't be put off....  more »

  • An excellent place to visit, well worth a trip down the coal mine and on the Apedale Valley Light Railway.
  • Very friendly staff interesting area with a fun little railway attached.
  • Great place for a substantial day out. The free museum is good and provides an excellent look at mining (and sadly the cost in human lives). There's the drift mine tour for an interesting, hands-on look at mining (Takes about 1 hour, wear hiking shoes because it's a little muddy & wet, and bring a sweater - it's cool, even on a hot summer's day!). Cafe, narrow-gauge railway, and acres of trails in the country park to explore.
  • Excellent mine tour. Cant remember the guides name but he was excellent and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended. Has made me want to visit other mines to learn more about the industry.
  • Great walks and views, nice cafe and free heritage centre, and a mine tour and train ride if you have time!
