  • This is a beautiful church in the centre of Chesterfield and very old. It is believed that the man who built it went crazy because he could not replicate the crooked spire again. Beneath the spire in ...  more »
  • The only thing that's special about it is the fact that the spire is twisted but it's still worth a photograph.  more »
  • This is a very ancient church with a lot to see, well worth a visit. The millenium window, celebrating St Mary's nine centuries, is a triumph of modern stained glass. They offer tours of the tower on ...  more »

  • I've often past the town of Chesterfield and seen the twisted spire of the church but this was the first time I visited it! It has a very welcome feel to it and includes a gift shop! I was delighted that there was a group of school children being shown round on the day we visited! It is almost cathedral like inside as it is so big. I liked the huge Parish chest and the very old font which is Saxon. The guide is in an easy to read form, well suited for children. So now I know why the spire twisted but I'm not going to tell you because I want you to go in and find out for yourself! 😊
  • Incredible place to visit. The spire, yes it is crooked, is old woodwork that has twisted over the years and has now become an historical building and not only a religious building. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, and the guided tour is well worth it. The church is a must to visit, if you are in the city, to gain photographs of the spire or just to pray in the tranquil atmosphere of the church
  • A truly lovely church, very interesting steeple and full of history.
  • The church's reputation is well deserved. It's famous for its twisted spire.
  • Very interesting place! The spire is incredible!
