Chester Zoo, Chester

4.4
#1 of 5,670 in Outdoors in United Kingdom
Chester Zoo is one of the best places for viewing wildlife in the UK. The 45 hectare (111 acre) site houses more than 11,000 animals. See the greater one-horned rhinoceros on the Asian Plains, elephants in the Asian Forest, and jaguars in one of the world's largest jaguar enclosures. Walk through Butterfly Journey to completely surround yourself with the colorful winged creatures, and enter the Fruit Bat Forest to observe these giant bats. You can sit in on various animal talks throughout the day, and make sure you also spend time in the diverse, award-winning gardens. Choose from six different restaurants and kiosks. If you're traveling with small children, consider renting a buggy to ferry them around the zoo. Use our Chester trip site to add Chester Zoo and other attractions to your Chester vacation plans.

  • Great place to visit, however very expensive. Take your own food to make your trip cheaper. Great array of animals, lots of hard work by the keepers but too much money to get in.  more »
  • We have visited a fair few zoo's and Chester Zoo is one of my favorites. The animals and their enclosures all looked well kept. Its such a big zoo that we spent two days here as we didn't want to have...  more »
  • We travelled for 2+hours and felt it looked tired. Signage could have been much much better as signs only showed perhaps 1 or 2 exhibits .would have been helpful to have directions further afield. The...  more »

  • Wonderful, well maintained zoo. Worth every penny of the admission fee as you can clearly see the animals are very well cared for. There are plenty of toilets and refreshment places spread around.
  • Absolutely brilliant. The lantern show was amazing. Only downside was the food being served. My 4 year old grandson is egg and dairy intolerant. He had his heart set on a burger but they were served on a brioche bun. We asked about alternatives but even though they showed us the allergy book there was nothing on that stall. They did however say that the next door stall were serving pigs in blankets that he could have. We then had to queue again at the next stall. He loved his pigs in blankets. Shame the burger stall didn't have an alternative bread for him. Apart from that it was a magical evening loved by all of us. Thank you.
  • I have been to the zoo before, great place but unfortunately the weather was pretty awful when I went in January and some of the animals were no where to be seen. Best to go when its good weather 😀
  • Great Zoo! Considering their focus on the planet and environment, I was very surprised to find very little vegan options on their menu. A lot of the animals were inside due to the weather so missed out on some of the kids favourites. Having said that a fun and informative day out for all the family
  • Possibly the best Zoo in the world. Must be in the top ten. Huge place with recent new investment on The Islands Exhibit. This was unfortunately damaged recently in a fire. Hopefully it will be fixed quickly because it was a really nice addition.
