Chester Zoo is one of the best places for viewing wildlife in the UK. The 45 hectare (111 acre) site houses more than 11,000 animals. See the greater one-horned rhinoceros on the Asian Plains, elephants in the Asian Forest, and jaguars in one of the world's largest jaguar enclosures. Walk through Butterfly Journey to completely surround yourself with the colorful winged creatures, and enter the Fruit Bat Forest to observe these giant bats. You can sit in on various animal talks throughout the day, and make sure you also spend time in the diverse, award-winning gardens. Choose from six different restaurants and kiosks. If you're traveling with small children, consider renting a buggy to ferry them around the zoo. Plan to visit Chester Zoo during your Chester vacation using our convenient Chester itinerary planner.

  • Had a lovely day out here today. The animals were all on their best behaviour, the weather was pleasant after a tiny bout of rain, and the lunch meal deal in the restaurant was reasonable. The ice cre...  read more »
  • Firstly the zoo is a great day out. Animals clearly really well looked after, environment overall spot on and they are doing a great job in terms of conservation efforts and information. But, food is ...  read more »
  • Don't underestimate the size of this place! It's huge. Didn't, but I'd recommend taken the monorail between parts to save some leg work. I arrived about 12.30 and left 4.30 and didn't see everything, ...  read more »
  • Excellent day out and great value for the family or couples alike. Chester Zoo has a breeding program for endangered animals, so you will always see some baby animals, which - lets face it - are cute. Facilities are good, lots of volunteers and staff to advise or guide you and the new 'Islands' area is very scenic indeed, with a free boat ride around the facility. Food is expensive for what it is, as is all these venues. However essential drinks on a warm day are reasonable. Excellent large car park or catch the no1 bus from Chester by the Cathedral bus terminus.
  • Brilliant zoo and a great day out. The Zoo is always very clean and tidy and the staff generally are very helpful and friendly. Most of the animals look very well cared for and happy and we always get good views. We go to Chester Zoo every year and still love it. It would most definitely be a 5-Star review if it weren't for the price. Going to the Zoo is a VERY expensive day out. Not only on entrance fee, but also on snacks and drinks once inside...take your own sarnies!
  • Without a doubt the best zoo i have ever visited. it is modern engaging and just an all round great experience. Me and my girlfriend went on the meerkat experiences which was amazing and i recommend highly. Bring a bottle of water or two as i have never seen a drink cost so much in my life
  • Great family day out plenty to see. Food and drink are priced about standard for these kind of places so I would recommend taking your own. The dinosaur land was a nice addition just needs to be alot bigger. One big problem we found was we went on a weekday and there was alot of school trips at the zoo and there didn't seem to be a structure to the way they went around the zoo. So it made it very busy between 10 -12 so school trips need limiting as there were loads at the zoo. Then structure there day so not to cause full paying guessed to be falling over 100s of school kids.
  • You get very tired here! lots of walking but the is transport too and a mono rail. Had a great day a bit expensive but the animals are very well looked after and have decent sized enclosures and they look happy, not marching up and down all the time as in some zoos! Food is a bit expensive so best take a packed lunch . Enjoyed the Island river cruise ,something different and a chance to have a rest. All in all a good day out but get there as it opens as you need more than a day to get round it all!
