Zoo / Aquarium Nature / Park
Chester Zoo is one of the best places for viewing wildlife in the UK. The 45 hectare (111 acre) site houses more than 11,000 animals. See the greater one-horned rhinoceros on the Asian Plains, elephants in the Asian Forest, and jaguars in one of the world's largest jaguar enclosures. Walk through Butterfly Journey to completely surround yourself with the colorful winged creatures, and enter the Fruit Bat Forest to observe these giant bats. You can sit in on various animal talks throughout the day, and make sure you also spend time in the diverse, award-winning gardens. Choose from six different restaurants and kiosks. If you're traveling with small children, consider renting a buggy to ferry them around the zoo. Plan to visit Chester Zoo during your Chester vacation using our convenient Chester itinerary planner.

  • Not been here for a few years and it's come on in leaps and bounds. The zoo has transformed itself, there are loads of new environments to visit and the layout of these is fantastic. it feels more like a walking safari park rather than a zoo, with the zoos benefit of being up close and able to see the animals but with a much more natural environment for the animals. my only grips is navigating around the park isn't as easy as you'd like. If you've not been for a while or thinking about going, go!
  • Some might say I am biased because I live in Chester but it is the best zoo in the world :) Staff is very friendly, you have food courts spread over the zoo and important of all is the animal enclosures. No animal can complain that they don't have a good enclosure. Addition of Islands made it even better. And they continuously try and improve the place, add more/new animals. It is a great day out especially if you have kids, not saying it isn't a good day out for single people or couples with no kids :)
  • Best zoo I've ever been to. Fantastic day out for all the family. Our little boy who is 15 months old loved seeing all the monkeys and cheetahs. Loved the different play areas for children all around the park and all the attention to detail for each enclosure. All the animals are well looked after and happy. We will definetly be coming back again. X
  • Always loved this pace a a kid now I love it as an adult after taking my 3 year old. Her favourite was the Bat house which we had to visit at least 5 times!😂 friendly staff and food reasonably priced. Not the cheapest entry tickets but it all helps for the well being of the animals so mustn't grumble on that point. Definitely return soon
  • Excellent Zoo with large and rich enclosures, lots of staff mean that the park was clean and well maintained. Animals all seemed well and didn't see any signed if stress. Enclosures were well suited to the animals and had plenty of enrichment. New area of the zoo was nice and calming :) New boat rides was good but could be improved as it was very load and could have done with some background music as it was a little dull at times, overall love the zoo and think there doing good things :)
