Chester Racecourse, Chester

3.7
#1 of 8 in Fun & Games in Chester
Whether you enjoy betting, horses, or just a fun day out, consider visiting Chester Racecourse, known as the Roodee. The racecourse is conveniently located a short distance from hotels, bars, shopping, and restaurants. Check out the horses and jockeys, take a chance at the betting ring, or just enjoy some social time. For ladies, it’s an opportunity to don a fancy dress and hat, although sensible footwear is recommended. Certain areas have a strict dress code, so be sure to check in advance. Also be prepared to turn off your camera flash. You cannot place bets once a race starts, but you can redeem winning tickets any time during the day. You can find refreshments in betting areas, but if you would prefer to eat at one of the restaurants, be sure to pre-book. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Chester holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Chester Racecourse and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • A great day out! The second time we have had a day at Chester races and had a package at the White Horse. The staff were excellent looking after our every need. The food was excellent along with the surrounding. You have the table for the day and you can come and go to the course as you please.
  • Packed on the day we went, but have been told it's usually a bit quieter. Plenty of bookies on site and the staff do their best to clean up and keep the place tidy and presentable. Expect plenty of people around the bars, especially if it's raining.
  • Great compact racecourse with good views in all stands and from the middle. Shame you can't take your own drink onto the open course anymore, so you're limited to £4 a pint draught lager or cider. Bars do get exceptionally busy and the gents toilets are inadequate for the number of race goers, but, on the whole, I love a day out at Chester Races.
  • Fabulous course with great atmosphere. Corporate hospitality superb as is the service. Great day out!
  • Great day out, bar prices very heavy. County Stand is nice, again expensive for entry. Be prepared to miss a few races while trying to get served drinks though. Can get very crowded.
