One of the most fashionable areas in the city, Montpellier District is noted for its abundance of trendy bars, cafes, restaurants, and a wide range of specialty shops. The district’s distinctive architecture, attractive villas, and ornamental gardens have gained it the reputation of having a "continental flavor." Be sure to take a leisurely stroll along the Montpellier Walk, designed in 1840 by architect W.H. Knight and noted for the 32 caryatids that support the shop fronts. Besides its numerous clothing and jewelry stores, the area is also known for housing the famous Cheltenham Ladies’ College, St. Andrew’s Church, Montpellier Rotunda, Queen’s Hotel, and the Imperial Gardens. Stop by for a relaxing day of shopping and sightseeing, and don’t forget your camera.
