#2 of 6 in Parks in Bridport
Golden Cap is a hill and cliff situated on the English Channel coast between Bridport and Charmouth in Dorset, England. The cliffs are the highest point on the south coast of Great Britain. The name derives from the distinctive outcropping of golden greensand rock present at the very top of the cliff. The hill is owned by the National Trust and forms part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site. The Jurassic Coast is 155km in length, running from Orcombe Point near Exmouth, in the west, to Old Harry Rocks on the Isle of Purbeck, in the east . The coastal exposures along the coastline provide a continuous sequence of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous rock formations spanning approximately 185 million years of the Earth's history. The Jurassic Coast contains a large range of important fossil sites.Golden Cap stands at and is visible for tens of miles along the coastline. The hill is accessible via a coastal footpath from Seatown, and takes around 40 minutes to reach the summit. Behind the cliff is Langdon Wood, a small wood of mainly Corsican Pine, planted in the 1950s, whose trees originate from a nearby copse known as "Eleanor's Clump". Langdon is owned by the National Trust, and encompasses a circular walk of approximately one mile.

  • If you are driving the narrow road up to Seatown to reach a paid parking lot (£5). From here, you can make beautiful walks on and around the Golden Cap. After the effort, a visit to the anchor Inn rewarded (here you can charge the park fee).

  • Decent shop and good pizza selection. Open early, serving ok coffee. Seems to only have out side seating. Great for sunny days.
  • I went to a campsite in a field just yards away from Seaton and me and my mates walked to the top of golden cap to watch the red arrows fly over Lyme Regis. It is so beautiful. I defiantly recommend. Just make sure to bring food (cuppa soup was a quick easy meal to make there provided you bring water and a source of heat. Enjoy
  • Stunning place just a short walk from the car park.
  • Beautiful scenery. Walked from the Langdon National trust car park (50p per hour) through beautiful woodland which took around 20 mins with some tiring steps towards the end. You can also reach it from the beach car park at Seatown and visit the Anchor pub on your return.
  • The highest point on the South Coast with wonderful views along the Jurassic Coast from Portland Bill to Beer cliffs
