Easy to find via Satnav and well-signposted, Speedwell Cavern was very accessible by car. Parking was £4 but there was a £2 refund for the Cavern Tour participants. We took advantage of the 'earlybird...  more »

An enjoyable experience in which you definitely learn something! Interesting stories and facts related by the humorous tour guide. Definitely one to tick off if you are in the area!  more »

  • Visited on May 30th in a family party of 9 with ages between 5 y.o & 69y.o. All enjoyed the mine, it was a memorable occasion. The guide was excellent, knowledgeable and fun. One point though, we queued for 2 hours before entry. It could be advantageous to introduce a system similar to supermarket deli counter or hospital blood test where you take a ticket and are given a time. You could then do other things rather than standing in a queue.
  • Very good place to go, especially with kids. I'm not all into caves but I really enjoyed this one as the boat ride is very different to your usual cave tour. The tour guide was very humorous and knowledgeable and made the whole thing worth travelling for. Definitely worth going!
  • This is a memorable experience but not really worth the admission price. You essentially travel on a boat through a man made tunnel which is just slightly wider than the boat and just taller than head height. At the end of the tunnel you get off at a platform and see a cove-type area and then wait 20mims for another boat to come and pick you up. It was very boring, unlike other reviews here our tour guide was pretty quiet for most of the journey. I was expecting a bit more of an experience, perhaps more exploration within the cave, I totally wasn't expecting to see so little of it all.
  • A nice underground cave experience. A fair amount of steps to get into the boat itself and a very low tunnel. Upon reaching the end of the line for the boat there is a cave area which opens up and looks great. I don't know why but the way back always seems shorter but definitely not a bad thing.
  • I thought we were going into a cave but it was a long, dark narrow tunnel leading to a cave. The steps down were very steep and wet and you had to bend to avoid hitting your head. The boat virtually filled the width of the tunnel and you had to bend down most of the way. It was very dark and the boat banged and rocked all the way to the cave. I was grateful to get out of the boat for the 10 minutes we spent in the cave before the return journey. Thr guide was very humerous but there should be warnings to let people know what to expect on this trip. I would not recommend this trip for older people or young children.
