Castle Combe Village, Castle Combe

4.7
#4 of 44 in Historic Sites in Cotswolds
In a storybook setting, Castle Combe Village has a reputation as one of England prettiest villages. Walking tours will direct you to ancient, Cotswold-type homes, properties so old they are recognized as ancient monuments. Many of the 350 residents are direct descendants to those who founded it during medieval times. Remains of the original marketplace and dismount stations for horse riders lend a charm to the area, recognized by film producers who have used it as a backdrop to "War Horse" and "Stardust." Strict rules apply to maintain its beauty and status as a wildlife preserve. A few km away from the highway it would be a pity to miss this beautiful little village, is it one of the most beautiful of the country. Visit walk preferably in less than an hour.

Such a lovely contrast to our home city! Nice honeycomb houses and cosy homes all lined up, with bits to explore here and there. Local shops and bakeries, super nice to walk around on a sunny dry day.  more »

  • Easy parking and relaxed feel. I visited to watch a Club Lotus track day. Good food available and good facilities.
  • Really good price for entry and free for under 17s. Very much lower division motor sport so you set your expectations accordingly. Never the less a good day out with absolutely nothing to moan about so an easy 5 stars.
  • Excellent day for a boot sale, the only thing that let it down was the organisation of the parking, where traders were allowed to use the blue badge holders disable car park, so when we got there for opening time at nine o clock in the morning the car park is full.My daughter counted four large vans without blue badges parked in the reserved for badge holder spaces. We were guided to a parking space at third of a mile away from the sale. As a person with mobility issues this isn't suitable as it impacted on the time I could spend at the sale before feeling to tired to continue. A bit of re-organisation by the event holders and traders understanding the needs of people with mobility issues instead of saving a few minutes in walking to and from their stall and vehicle, it would have justified a five star review but sadly I can honestly give three.
  • Best circuit in the country close to the action, great racing, plenty of places too watch from,Quarry Corner on the first lap very exciting also great place for overtaking, and u can see most of the circuit too
  • Spent many happy visits over last 40 years saw so many fantastic cars and met some really nice people and I hope to visit a lot more times
