Soak in medieval history while exploring 900-year-old Carlisle Cathedral. Adorned with original Gothic architecture and stone carvings, the cathedral houses England’s largest glass window in the Flowing Decorated style. Admire the colorful barrel ceiling above the main sanctuary, or attend a service to enjoy classical organ and choir music. You can explore all parts of the cathedral free of charge, including a library, the treasury, and a small gift shop. Venture across the street to have lunch in the old monk’s dining hall, now a cafe. • I thought this was a nice cathedral. The organ is particularly impressive as well as all of the stain glass windows. They have a great deal of information telling the stories behind some of the murals and the background on the life of the cathedral.
