  • 11th century Cardigan castle has only been open to the public about 2 years after an extensive renovation. It is the home of the very first Eisteddfod in 1176 - the walls are full of song. Something q...  more »

  • We visited a few castles on our visit to wales and whilst this was not on the same scale as some of the others, it was fascinating to learn the history of it with the local volunteers. We also managed...  more »

  • Slightly disappointing. The house had the feel of a conference and events centre. Though some downstairs rooms have glass display cabinets and tv screens in them telling the recent history. The best room is the kitchen which still has the original stove. Otherwise it's not really a museum. The market garden is impressive in that all its produce goes into the restaurant. People are lovely, esp the lady who greeted us at reception (she engaged with our kids from the off) and the volunteer gardener who shows off his produce with pride. It seems unsure of what it is: b&b, conference centre, wedding venue or historic monument. Too broad a brush stroke in my opinion.
  • As a local I am very proud of the achievements of the staff at the castle.A lot of though has gone into making it interesting for both locals and holiday folk.. Today we had the unveiling of the Sword of Peace statue. It is stunning to say the least. A good place to visit..
  • Steeped in history with friendly staff, happy to share their knowledge. The castle itself is mostly reconstructed into its manor house condition, with only the outer wall now visible. The manor house has been beautifully restored and is now an exhibition to the castles history. There's also a little modern cafe/restaurant on site. Very recommended!
  • Enjoyed the castle but could have done with a guided tour to bring it to life. The Sunday lunch in the 1176 restaurant was stunning and is highly recommended.
  • Interesting part of Cardigan's history. Attractive grounds and restaurant. House is imposing but in my opinion the interior restoration is misguided. Overuse of modern materials leaving the interior rather anaemic. However some features are retained and it is popular wedding venue ..
