Victoria Park, Cardiff
(4.4/5 based on 70+ reviews on the web)
Victoria Park is a public park in the Canton district of Cardiff in south Wales at Cowbridge Road East.As its name suggests, it is a traditional Victorian era park named after Queen Victoria and has retained much of its original charm. The park was created as a municipal recreation ground by Cardiff City Council through a city charter between 1897 and 1898 to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee marking her record sixty years on the throne. The park is located on the a small part of the extensive traditional Canton Cross common lands that had originally been used as a substantial fresh food and livestock trading market six days a week from the medieval period. Victoria Park was the first municipal park established within Cardiff and was one of the first in the country. The park covers nearly twenty acres and still contains the original model boating and paddling pool which remains a very popular attraction in summer, plus a playpark for younger children. At the very north of the park there are tennis courts and a 5-a-side football astro turf field. The original 1898 bandstand had fallen into disrepair and had been demolished but, in 1998, a replica of the original bandstand was erected on the original site to mark the park's centennial celebrations.

  • There's plenty to do here, especially with children. It has a large play area and a swimming pool that's open in the summer. There are also wide-open spaces to use for sports or just to relax.
  • always good to find these green spaces in Cardiff. Play area for children, Not much in the park otherwise but relaxing to walk round away from the traffic and bustle
  • We are often in the Victoria Park area, and it is such a pleasure to be able to go and just wander around the beautiful park. They have done a lot of work to the splash pool area this year, and during...  more »

  • What a fantastic place to take the kids during the warmer months. Many of the Victorian flowerbeds have been replaced by a modern day water 💦 park. A safe & people friendly environment for all ages, especially kids. With so many choices & things to do, you'll be hard pressed to find better, if it's fun in the sun your after locally. We went there for the August Bank Hols weekend & it was choca block.
  • Lovely fun for kids. Nice and clean. Toilet can be seen to more regularly.
  • The new splash pool is great its shallower round 2" with jet sprays, felt safer for my three yr old to play in not alone tho! Great day out for everyone wen the sun is shinning 😊
  • On a sunny day this place is great to take the kids. With the addition of a splash park the kids love it
  • Its a well maintained but small park. Plenty for kids to do.
