  • I’m sorry but it’s time to remove this “attraction”, it pulls the waterfront area down. It’s not maintained, it’s just a shabby bunch of water damaged letters and photos. I know there are people who f...  more »

  • Always found this to be a bit bizarre. A shrine to a fictional character. Anyway its fun to look at. My wife hasn't a clue who Ianto or what Torchwood was.
  • Huge fan of Torchwood and Doctor Who. Fans will love it as every time there's something new to see as its always having new stuff added to it. There's a nice plaque as to what it's about for Non-Torchwood fans. Really sweet idea
  • Really only of interest to Torchwood fans and those intrigued as to how a fictional character can inspire such a memorial. Each to their own: people still seek 221b Baker Street in London, too. If you've never seen the series you wouldn't know what it's about.
  • I loved it. As a real dr who and torchwood fan a must visit place in cardiff
  • When my daughter and I traveled from Texas to Cardiff for the last day the Doctor Who Experience was open we took in some of the local sights after we left. More specifically some of the filming locations of Doctor Who and Torchwood. The first being Ianto Jones’ Shrine. Those who are unfamiliar with Ianto, he was one of the stars of the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood. The location was one of the secret entrances to Torchwood. So when Russell T. Davies killed him off on the show, fans were so distraught they made an impromptu “shrine” to remember their favorite coffee boy (who proved later to be so much more). When we were walking down on the boardwalk we noticed the shrine. If you were just looking at it, you couldn’t tell that it was one of the entrances to Torchwood 3. It was covered in notes and photos and drawings and letter of remorse from around the world. Some of them didn’t look so good because the weather had gotten the best of them. But from what I understand some of the tattered ones are removed. Some people think this is just an eyesore and it should not be allowed. Because hey Ianto Jones was not a real person. It’s a waste of time and it’s this or that. But some on, why take life so serious all the time. I mean obviously it’s been kept up. It draws people to the city, even after the show has been over for going on seven years, which generates some type of funds for the surrounding businesses. And it makes people happy. So what’s wrong with that I ask. So if you’re in Cardiff, more specifically Mermaid Quay, and you’re a Doctor Who/Torchwood fan, be sure to stop by and pay your respects to Ianto and visit the shrine. You’ll be glad you did.
